The Community Action Network, Inc. has a mission to advocate and promote healthy lifestyles for every youth and adult in historically disparaged communities in Florida. We will facilitate delivery of quality health services, the promotion of health standards and values that are beneficial to all communities and people by collaborating with various like-minded organizations.

By conducting grassroots research projects, we will accomplish the following: compile data regarding primary health conditions – obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes; while soliciting the active participation of local area youth to assist in conducting these research programs. We will attempt to partner with state agencies to allow college credit in research design/methods. This program aims to reduce the negative health consequences that impact disparaged cultures, identify opportunities and barriers to achieving this goal, and develop potential partners.

Medical physicians, nutritionists and personal trainers have demonstrated an interest in our organizational objectives regarding the health status of students. Nutritional education and application are the first steps towards achieving improved health among youth. We will provide this education and supplement the education with healthier snack choices and common foods to be eaten during these educational sessions and following exercise activities.

The Community Action Network intends to combine fun common sporting activity, which historically have been enjoyed by children, with physical exercise pertinent to cardiovascular health. With the alarming realization that obesity rates have doubled in the last decade, an increased emphasis on youth fitness is critical. Physical education is one of the best ways to promote youth fitness. However, due to budget cutbacks, physical education in schools has been seriously affected.
